Windsor Begins Plowing Residential Areas

Snowed-under Windsor residents should soon start seeing some relief.

The city says they have begun the process of plowing residential streets in addition to main arteries.

With Friday's snowfall breaking a record for the day in Windsor-Essex, the process has been slow and frustrating. City crews have been working longer shifts to clear snow but they are asking for residents' patience and help.

Windsor's executive director of operations Dwayne Dawson says one thing they are asking people not to do is shovel their snow back onto the street. He says it only makes the process more difficult.

“We know people are shovelling and that they get frustrated when they see the plow push snow back up on their freshly cleared driveway, but the roads need to be cleared”, says Dawson in a news release. “If people can wait until they see their road has been plowed to shovel the end of their driveway that might help head off some frustration."

Dawson says patience is also requested as far as parking at the city's community centres is concerned. With plenty of people coming and going on weekends, clearing the parking lots is a challenge.

Trails will be cleared once all sidewalks and centre parking lots have been taken care of.

The city is also asking residents to make sure fire hydrants are clear and have easy access. In the event of a fire where every second counts, it will be easier for firefighters to get to the hydrants.
