A Festive RIDE program by Windsor police netted one arrest for impairment.
Windsor police, in cooperation with the Ontario Provincial Police, set up two Festive RIDE checkpoints for Friday night into Saturday morning at points around the city, according to a Facebook post. One of those checkpoints was set up on Dougall Ave. just north of the E.C. Row Expressway.
Officers interviewed a total of 693 drivers between the two locations. One driver showed signs of being impaired by a drug and was charged on site.
Four citations were also issued in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
The Festive RIDE, which stands for Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere, has been common across Windsor-Essex during the holiday season, keeping the area streets safe while urging people not to attempt driving after they've consumed alcohol, cannabis or other substances.
