Carrousel of Nations goes countywide

A staple of Windsor summers is expanding to the county.

The Multicultural Council of Windsor-Essex County is bringing its popular Carrousel of Nations event to Leamington this year, with four villages being set up to reflect the cultural makeup of the municipality.

Leamington Mayor Hilda MacDonald hosted a media event Thursday morning at the Caldwell First Nation Town Hall, which will play host to the Caldwell First Nation Village when the event takes place on Saturday, June 15. Aruna Koushik, co-chairperson for Carrousel of Nations, is excited about the opportunity to include Leamington in this year's festivities.

"Development to include different regions, cultures, and people has always been a goal of Carrousel, and through dedicated effort, we can announce that this year, we are growing," said Koushik.

The three other villages taking place in Leamington will be the Italian Village, located at the Roma Club; the Mexican Village, to be situated at Erie Street South near Pulford Avenue; and the Lebanese Village at the Leamington Lebanese Club on County Road 77.

Carrousel of Nations, which has been part of the Windsor-Essex festival season since the mid-1970s, is a collaboration between the Multicultural Council and the individual ethnic communities, to educate and entertain visitors about the diversity of the area.

This year's Carrousel will feature a total of 19 cultural villages in Windsor and Leamington, throughout the weekends of June 14 and June 21. For complete information, visit Carrousel's official website.
