OPP dog takes bite out of crime

Two men from Chatham have been arrested after a break-in at a hydro substation in Lakeshore.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said it happened on Friday just after midnight on Rourke Line.

The OPP's canine team arrived on the scene minutes later, directing anyone inside the compound to make themselves visible to police or canine "Maximus" was going in to do a search. That's when one suspect decided to run away but he was quickly caught by officers, according to police.

Maximus entered the compound because police said the second suspect refused to identify himself. He was treated by paramedics for a dog bite.

A 56-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from Chatham, have been charged with break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, and mischief. The 40-year-old was also charged with possession of drugs and failing to follow court orders.

Their names have not been made public.
