Workers at a plant in west Windsor that is on the chopping block have a special meeting this weekend.
Nemak employees have been called to the Unifor Local 200 union hall on Sunday for a special membership meeting at 10 a.m.
Nemak announced three weeks ago that it is closing its plant in west Windsor by the middle of next year because General Motors in Shanghai, China is phasing-out an export program early, taking the plant's capacity in Windsor to below 10 per cent by 2020.
Unifor Local 200 President John D'Agnolo previously told Blackburn News that he wanted to speak with Nemak officials in Mexico to get another product at the plant to save those jobs. He will go over what is in the collective agreement and discuss the next steps to be taken.
Nemak in Windsor currently has 200 employees working and produces 2.0 litre aluminium engine blocks for the GM plant in Shanghai. There are 70 Nemak workers currently on layoff.
D'Agnolo promised that the union will do whatever it takes to keep the Windsor plant open.
Nemak received $1.4 million from the province in 2015 and $3 million from the federal government in 2017 to keep its doors open in Windsor.
MPs, MPPs, and Windsor's mayor and council are strongly urged to attend the meeting.
