Local criminal court proceedings go back to in-person process

Any individuals with criminal matters before the courts will now need to start appearing in-person again.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, anyone with criminal matters before the courts were not required to attend for certain scheduled court dates, and these matters would be presumptively adjourned by 5 weeks at a time. However, these presumptive adjournments have ended, and personal in-court appearances are required once again, which may be by zoom or audio. If you have an ongoing matter before the criminal courts you should call your lawyer to confirm who will be attending at the next court appearance or, if you don’t have a lawyer, contact the court house where your case is scheduled to be heard.

According to the Huron, Bruce and Grey Law Associations, as of November 30th, if you or a representative do not show up to court, you could be arrested for failure to attend.
