Two Windsor-Essex municipalities have announced plans to resume recreational activities as Ontario comes out of COVID-19 lockdown.
Both the Town of LaSalle and the Municipality of Lakeshore have laid out the procedure for bringing back summer recreation programs, which were either rolled back last summer or cut completely.
LaSalle
LaSalle will reopen its outdoor pool on Monday, July 5 for recreational swimming, adult workouts, aquafitness, and lifeguarding programs. Registration is now open, free for swimming programs, and is required in advance.
Adult length swimming is limited to four people at a time, aquafitness is limited to five people, and recreational swimming to ten people, with each family member registered.
The town's culture and recreation department said lifeguarding programs, including Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and National Lifeguard, will run in two-week-long sessions through July and August. These will be a mix of online sessions and in-person sessions at the pool.
Visitors to the pool are asked to arrive showered with their bathing suits under their clothing. Masks are required in common areas but not in the pool itself.
Complete information on available swim programs and registration are found at LaSalle Culture and Recreation Department's official website.
Lakeshore
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Lakeshore has laid out its plan to resume a variety of activities based on the province's Roadmap to Reopen.
Step Two of reopening is scheduled for 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, with Step Three set for later in the summer as long as COVID-19 trends remain headed in the right direction.
Starting Wednesday morning, baseball fields and soccer pitches at all Lakeshore facilities will be open for league rentals. Event and festival applications for outdoor events set to take place in Step Three will also be accepted starting Wednesday.
Some activities at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre are scheduled to resume in late July or early August as provincial guidelines allow. These include the following.
- Gymnasium rentals with limited capacity
- Weekday ice skating and league rentals at the Shuren and Rink C with capacity limits
- Indoor pickleball with limited capacity
- Lap swimming pool open with capacity limits
- Indoor walking track with social distancing and limited capacity
In early September, Rock Rink will reopen with capacity limits. Fitness classes will resume at Atlas Tube and the Comber Community Centre, and indoor shuffleboard will resume.
Complete information on Lakeshore's recreation programming is found on its Department of Recreation and Leisure's webpage.
