Treatment and research initiatives to fight men's cancer have received a huge boost in Windsor-Essex.
The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation's (WCCF) annual Grow On campaign raised a total of over $255,000 this year.
"Our community never fails to amaze us with their generosity," said WCCF Executive Director Houida Kassem. On behalf of the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation, thank you to each and everyone one of you for making an invaluable impact on our patients."
The Grow On Windsor campaign has taken place every November in Windsor-Essex since 2015 as part of Men's Health Awareness Month. Men are encouraged to let their facial hair grow throughout the month to raise money for men's cancer initiatives. Throughout its existence, Grow On Windsor has raised over $1-million.
The total included the money raised from the third annual Mangia for Men's Health, which raised a total this year of $4,582.24 to support the fight against cancer by men in the region.
"We are blown away by this year’s total," said fundraising chairman Massimo De Menech. "The funds raised will be used to purchase life-saving equipment to help the men in Windsor-Essex fight their battle with cancer. Houida Kassem and her team at the WCCF are doing great things for our community, and we are proud to be a part of the GrowOn Windsor campaign."
The money raised through this year's campaign will purchase five infusion pumps, start-up funding for Seeds-4-Hope, which is locally-based cancer research, and support ArcCheck, which is part of a radiation treatment plan.
