Windsor residents should now be getting their interim tax bills in the mail for this year.
The City of Windsor began the process of sending bills out last week and is expected to have them mailed by Tuesday.
"Consistent with prior years, the interim billing amount is approved at 50 per cent of the property taxes paid in 2021," read a release from the City. "Changes resulting from Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) assessment updates are reflected on the tax bill. An adjustment on the tax bill titled '2022 Interim Tax Cap Adjustment' reflects any adjustment necessary to meet the 50 per cent limitation. Changes resulting from the Final 2022 Municipal-Education Tax Rates will be reflected on the final 2022 tax bill, which is mailed in June."
Due dates for regular tax payments are February 16, March 16, and April 13, 2022.
Pre-authorized payment plans are available. Payments can be taken at a financial institution, through online or telephone banking, or by personal cheque only via mail. You can also drop off personal cheques at the first-floor dropbox at 350 City Hall Square West.
If your property taxes are paid through a bank as part of your mortgage payment, you'll receive a statement for your records.
The City also recommends that residents who are having trouble keeping up on property tax payments seek help as soon as possible. The City offers a tax repayment program that is open to all residents and a tax relief program for single-family property owners that meet eligibility. The deadline to apply for the latter program is February 28. Lower-cost alternatives are also available through banks, trusts, and credit unions.
For businesses affected by the provincial government's most recent COVID-19 restrictions, the City has offered a one-time deferral of the February 2022 tax payment. Property owners must submit an application by February 10.
If you have not received your interim tax bill by Tuesday, February 1, please call 311.
