The Port of Windsor is getting ready to deliver more than one-million tonnes of crushed stone needed to build the new EV battery plant in East Windsor.
It's securing ships to deliver it by Christmas.
The massive undertaking requires 50 marine deliveries from northern Ontario, Michigan, and Ohio quarries. Once it arrives at the port, 400 truckloads a day will take it to the site south of the E.C. Row and west of Banwell Road. The work could take three months.
The $5-billion factory could be operational as early as 2025 and create 2,500 new jobs. Stellantis and LG Energy Corp announced the project back in May. Officials called it the largest investment in the automotive industry in Ontario's history.
Bulldozers have already been on the site to clear it for construction on the 4.5-million sq. ft. plant.
