Last month was a busy one for those in the home-building business.
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation said overall housing starts, both single-detached and multi-unit homes, rose 81 per cent over August 2021.
Ground broke on 76 new single-detached homes and 167 multi-unit projects.
That's a 31 per cent jump for single-detached houses and a 120 per cent jump for townhomes and apartment buildings.
In August 2021, construction started on 58 single-detached homes and 76 multi-unit ones.

Although housing starts were down slightly in Ontario, they remained strong across Canada.
"Housing starts activity remains elevated in Canada historically and has been well above 200,000 units since 2020," said Chief Economist Bob Dugan.
Total housing starts in Ontario dropped by one percentage point because of a six per cent drop in single-detached home construction. A two per cent increase in multi-unit homes offset the loss.
Canada saw a six per cent increase overall, as multi-unit projects climbed by nine per cent, and construction on single-detached homes dipped two percentage points.
