John R. Homestead is inviting residents to help celebrate its 180th birthday.
Staff at the homestead have organized a weekend of mystery on September 24 and 25.
“To celebrate, we are introducing some new and immersive programs including a special escape room experience, and a mystery to be solved. These encounters will provide visitors with ways of exploring the Homestead like never before,” said Kris Ives, curator and education coordinator.
The escape room experience will be on September 24. Sessions must be booked in advance and can include up to 8 people. The cost is $15 per person.
On September 25, families are invited to help solve a mystery.
"Something strange is happening here, doors are being left open, artifacts are being moved, the house seems to come alive at night. The curator suspects that the mayhem may be caused by a specific artifact and wants your help to find the culprit to keep the historic home of John and Amelia Park protected for the next 180 years," said Ives.
On October 2, the homestead will host the Harvest and Horses Festival. During the festival, participants can celebrate autumn the old-fashioned way with cider pressing, sausage stuffing, corn husk crafts, pioneer demonstrations, and pony rides.
