Many business owners and government employees will usher in the unofficial start of summer by taking the day off.
Victoria Day is a statutory holiday in Canada, and that means in Windsor-Essex, many businesses and points of interest will be either closed or on reduced hours Monday.
All federal, provincial, and municipal offices and town halls are closed for Victoria Day. There will be no Canada Post delivery. Service Ontario offices will be closed, though some transactions can be done online.
All four of the public school boards serving Windsor-Essex will take Monday off, with classes resuming Tuesday. Spring classes at the University of Windsor and St. Clair College will also pause Monday.
Select locations of The Beer Store will be open on Victoria Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with all locations reopening Tuesday. The LCBO, though, will be closed Monday.
Many chain restaurants and big-box stores will be either closed or on reduced hours on Monday, be sure to call ahead to avoid a wasted trip.
Devonshire Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tecumseh Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All Windsor Public Library branches are closed Monday, with hours switching to the summer schedule on Tuesday. The Essex County Library is also closed on Victoria Day.
The 311 call centre will close Monday and reopen on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 311 services are available via the app. The 211 call centre is open 24 hours as usual.
There will be no garbage or recycling pickup on Victoria Day. General pickup will be delayed one day, and residents should check their Waste Collection Calendar for more information. Recycling and commercial garbage collection will take place as usual. The public garbage and household waste drop-off depot on Central Avenue is closed Monday.
All City of Windsor arenas, community centres, and pools are closed Monday, with the exception of previously-booked events or rentals. Adventure Bay Family Water Park is open from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H-4) day program at Windsor Water World is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to help those dealing with homelessness.
There will be no parking enforcement on Windsor streets Monday, and metered parking will be free. Paid garages and lots will take payment as usual. Ticket payment offices are closed Monday, but payments can still be made online.
The Francois Baby House and Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are closed Monday, their normal day off.
Transit Windsor buses will run on the Sunday and holiday schedule on Victoria Day. The tunnel bus to Detroit will operate, but only on its regular downtown route as special event service remains suspended. The Customer Service Office on Chatham Street West will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the sales office on North Service Road East is closed.
