Windsor police arrested one person after a search at a newly opened downtown dispensary turned up a large quantity of psilocybin products.
According to police, at around 1 p.m. Thursday, officers attended the FunGuyz location on 395 Ouellette Avenue with a search warrant.
The dispensary, which opened in the city last week, advertises online that it specializes in selling psilocybin, a hallucinogen also known as magic mushrooms. The franchise currently operates 10 other dispensaries across the province.
Police said they launched the investigation after receiving complaints and concerns from the community about the store selling products that contain the hallucinogenic compound, which is illegal under Ontario’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
During the probe, members of the Drugs and Guns Unit reportedly seized 1,120 psilocybin capsules, 184 grams of dried psilocybin mushrooms, and varying amounts of psilocybin-infused products. A total of $5,535 in cash was also confiscated.
A 21-year-old employee who was working at the time has been charged with possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking.
This investigation remains ongoing.
