Restoration of utility vault underway

Work is still underway to remove a vehicle from an underground utility vault.

The vehicle fell into the vault Tuesday afternoon after the asphalt above it collapsed.

All lights in the affected area, downtown between Park Street and University Avenue, have been restored. Enwin Utilities Inc. reports 29 customers are still without power.

The utility vault is privately owned. City of Windsor officials are working with the property management group to have the vehicle removed as quickly as possible.

Until the vehicle is removed, the equipment cannot be assessed or restored. A timeline cannot be determined until the vehicle is removed.

The City of Windsor will be placing temporary garbage bins on Park Street and Ouellette Avenue for residents of Royal Windsor Terrace and area store owners who cannot use the regular facilities in the alley.
