Auto buyers in Canada continue to be interested in a minivan built in Windsor.
FCA Canada released its third-quarter sales figures for 2023 on Tuesday, and it's good news for the Chrysler Pacifica, built at Stellantis' Windsor Assembly Plant. The automaker sold 1,796 units of the minivan in Canada during the third quarter, a modest one per cent increase from the same period in 2022.
The positive trend continues for 2023 to date, with Pacifica sales showing a five per cent increase compared to this point last year.
"Positive news continues for the Canadian-made Chrysler minivan family, which saw sales increase again for the quarter to 2,328 units," a media release from FCA Canada said. "The company recently marked both the production of the 100,000th Pacifica Hybrid Plug-in Hybrid in Windsor, Ontario and also 40 years of minivan leadership."
There were mixed results for the Chrysler Grand Caravan, also built in Windsor. It sold 532 units in the third quarter for a seven per cent rise from 2022. However, sales year-to-date are still down 31 per cent.
The Pacifica had a larger sales increase in the States. The Detroit News reported that in the third quarter, the minivan had an overall 120 per cent increase for its trims in the U.S. and a 329 per cent increase in plug-in model sales.
Overall, all FCA Canada brands reported a one per cent drop for the third quarter of 2023, for a total of 40,716 vehicles sold.
