Tecumseh town councillors plan to move ahead with a change to the town's cenotaph, but not without finding out how much it will cost and consulting with the local Canadian Legion Branch first.
On Tuesday night, Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti approached councillors with a motion to add an inscription on the cenotaph honouring veterans from the war in Afghanistan. Councillors supported the notice of motion.
The inscription will read, "Afghanistan 2001-2014. However, the town will consult with the Royal Canadian Branch 261 before confirming the exact wording.
It's unlikely the inscription will go up in time for this year's Remembrance Day ceremonies. A report on the expense isn't expected until the town starts budget deliberations for 2024.
The cenotaph honours veterans from World War I, World War II, and the Korean War and Bachetti hopes to commemorate the sacrifice of the 158 Canadian soldiers who died during the conflict in Afghanistan.
One of those killed during the Afghan War was from Windsor, Corporal Andrew Grenon, but the region has many others who fought and returned home.
