Glenwood Public School to offer International Baccalaureate programme

Following two years of preparation, Glenwood Public School has become the first elementary school in Windsor to be certified by the International Baccalaureate to deliver a specialized program for students in junior kindergarten to grade six.

Only one other public elementary school in the region is certified; M.D. Bennie Public School in Leamington.

The programme meets the requirements of the Ontario curriculum but uses a different approach to learning.

The International Baccalaureate programme's website says the curriculum is tailored around a child's learning style, positioning them to respond to the challenges and opportunities in a changing world.

"The Primary Years Programme curriculum framework begins with the premise that students are agents of their own learning and partners in the learning process," said the website. "It reflects the best of educational research, thought leadership, and experience derived from IB World Schools."

The Greater Essex County District School Board offers the high school version at Riverside Secondary School and Leamington District Secondary School.

The administration and staff at Glenwood Public School learned about the certification in January.
