A section of Windsor's downtown core has become more vibrant with the unveiling of additional art pieces.
The Downtown Windsor Business Revitalization Association (DWBRA) announced the debut of two new art installations in WIFF Alley. The installations are Billie McLaughlin’s Sky Art project and Lock Installation.
Working with Daniel Bombardier, McLaughlin created the installations thanks to an investment from the federal government. The Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), delivered in southern Ontario by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), is dedicated to encouraging community involvement.
"WIFF Alley has quickly emerged as a highly popular and well-utilized space in our downtown for residents and tourists alike," said Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie. "It is a bright, safe, clean, and attractive space. Whether people are rushing between theatre venues during WIFF, hosting an outdoor event right in the alley, or taking an array of selfies and group shots for Instagram against the backdrop of our stunning murals and installations, we are delighted to see the space well-used and well-loved."
Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk and FedDev Ontario Minister Filomena Tassi were on hand Monday to show off the new installations.
"Our federal government has been proud to support DWBRA’s incredible Art Alley project, including these new installations that are being unveiled in WIFF Alley," said Kusmierczyk. "For residents of the community, it will be a source of pride, and for visitors, a beacon of welcome and a testament to the tremendous wealth of talent we have in the region."
The artwork helps blend WIFF Alley with nearby Art Alley, with over 75 metres of space featuring interactive artwork.
