Now that the holiday season is over, your real Christmas tree is taking up space in your home. You may ask yourself what to do with it, but the City of Windsor has a plan.
Christmas tree and yard waste collections start the week of January 15 in the "A" zones of the city and the week after if you live in a "B" zone.
You should check your waste collection calendar if you're unsure which zone you live in.
Since the city shreds trees for wood chips, only real trees will be accepted. Remove all decorations, lights, stands, and nails.
If your tree is taller than 6' or 1.8 metres, cut it in half before you take it to the curb so it will fit in the city's truck. Bundle loose branches, no longer than 4' in length, with cedar roping.
Only take your tree to the curb on your assigned pickup day. It needs to be out by 6 a.m.
When you take your tree to the curb, you can also put out leftover yard waste for pick up.
Anyone with questions about the collection can call 311 or visit the city's website.
