St. Clair College students who rely on the bus to get to class will have a little bit less to worry about Monday, in the event of a strike.
As a proactive measure, the College is providing all students who hold a valid Transit Windsor bus pass with a $275 credit to their student account. This is an effort to offset any additional expenses that may pop up when trying to find alternate transportation in the event of a strike.
The money is being allocated as a bursary and comes outside of a potential refund from Transit Windsor.
In addition, the College is prepared to temporarily open the bus loop to vehicles for dropping off and picking up students. No parking will be permitted in the area, as it's meant for quick drop-offs and pick-ups in an effort to mitigate extra traffic.
If a driver needs to park when waiting for a student the T lot, the visitor lot across from the main entrance, is available. Drivers need to stay inside their vehicles while waiting.
St. Clair advises that additional guards will be on duty for traffic control.
The College and Student Representative Council (SRC) have also worked to put together a ride-share program, in an effort to help those who need transportation.
Transit workers are set to potentially go on strike as of Monday, January 15, 2024.
