An extreme cold warning has ended for Sarnia-Lambton, London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, Perth County, Oxford County, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex.
Environment Canada issued the weather alert on Tuesday as wind chill values were forecasted to be near -30 C Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
The extreme cold warning ended shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. However, wind chill values are still expected to hover around -20 C in the afternoon and overnight.
The national weather agency said the risks were greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Residents were advised to watch for cold related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
When out in the cold, cover up because frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
