Snow and freezing rain set for southwestern Ontario

You will likely have to deal with a snowy, slippery drive to work Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, London Middlesex, and Elgin County.

However, the warning ended for Sarnia-Lambton and London-Middlesex shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The potential for two to four millimetres' accretion of ice is possible by Tuesday.

"More persistent freezing rain is expected [Monday night] into early Tuesday morning," read the advisory from Environment Canada. "By Tuesday afternoon the freezing rain will transition to rain or snow and then eventually periods of rain or drizzle Tuesday evening as temperatures rise above zero."

The weather agency has also issued a winter weather travel advisory for London-Middlesex, Sarnia-Lambton, Oxford, Elgin, Norfolk, and Huron Counties.

"Snow is forecast to begin early Tuesday morning. The snow, at times heavy, will continue through the day before tapering to periods of light snow Tuesday evening," read the advisory.

Five to ten centimetres of new snow are possible for areas within the advisory.

Roads, walkways, bridges, and overpasses across southwestern Ontario may become slippery or snow-covered. Ice buildup may also cause tree branches to snap off, creating the possibility of power outages.
