Man faces charges after Windsor collision and assault

Windsor police have arrested a 28-year-old after he allegedly caused a crash, assaulted someone, and fled the scene.

Police received several calls from Central Avenue and Ontario Street at around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they learned that a man struck a fence with his vehicle, and then assaulted the homeowner when they came out to confront him. The driver then refused to stop for police and sped off. The pursuit was stopped in the interest of public safety.

The homeowner was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was spotted outside a home on Tourangeau Road near Ontario Street. The suspect tried to run but was arrested after a short foot chase.

The Windsor resident is charged with assault, fleeing the scene of a crash, dangerous driving, and driving while impaired.

The man was also charged with outstanding warrants not related to this incident. The charges have not been proven in court.

Police have notified the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate.

Anyone with information, including video or photos, should contact the SIU's lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529, or online.
