Lakeshore addressing nuisance light

The Municipality of Lakeshore believes it has the solution for residents kept up at night by bright lights on their neighbour's property.

It's banning light fixtures that negatively impact neighbours.

Councillors approved an amendment to the municipality's property standards by-law.

"Neighbours will often work with each other to find solutions on issues related to problems like nuisance light, but this amendment gives Lakeshore the ability to act when those efforts fail," said Mayor Tracey Bailey.

Offending residents will get a warning before the bylaw is enforced.

The municipality recommends residents with exterior lights consider putting them on a timer or a motion sensor or reducing the intensity of the lights.

Those with complaints can call Lakeshore's By-Law Division at 519-728-2700, but anonymous complaints won't be accepted.
