The temperature in Windsor-Essex Tuesday broke the record for the warmest February 27 on record.
At 10:30 a.m., the temperature at the Windsor International Airport was 15 C, breaking the previous record of 14.2 C, recorded in 2017. By 4 p.m. the temperature reached 21 C.
There's a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening because of the spring-like temperatures.
"There's a pretty significant amount of lightning associated with the storms today, and we're expecting similar things for the Windsor-Essex area later tonight and tomorrow, which being the end of February, it's pretty rare that we would see this kind of activity," said Steven Flisfeder, warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada.
A cold front expected to come through Southern Ontario by mid-day Wednesday could bring a mix of precipitation from rain, freezing rain and snow flurries.
"We expect those temperatures to drop drastically from above zero to well below zero in many regions, and that will bring that mixed precipitation," said Flisfeder.
Warmer temperatures are expected to return by Friday.
