Local theatre company to produce a comedy series this summer

A local theatre company is launching a Kickstarter campaign to produce an eight-episode comedy series this summer.

The series, called (up)Staged, will be a mockumentary-style comedy that focuses on a struggling theatre company in Windsor, Ontario.

"The audience gets to see all the different things that happen behind the scenes of a theatre production, all the weirdness and bizarre things and bizarre characters, and ridiculous things that happen that you normally wouldn't get to see," said Executive Producer Michael Potter. "Mostly, it's really about artists and it's about the kinds of people who work as artists."

Production will employ around 50 local artists this summer.

Most of the series will be filmed at the Shadowbox Theatre but people may catch crews around the city.

"We'll be filming at some parks around, we'll be filming a bit of it on the street. We're going to have a promotional campaign for local businesses that want to help us reach our Kickstarter goal...they will be featured as well on the series," said Potter.

The Kickstarter campaign launches on May 10. The goal is to raise $400,000 to pay for the actors, crew, and distribution of the series.

"The idea is to create enough buzz through the kickstarter campaign in May and to keep that going throughout the production process, up to the sales process that we can use it to attract the attention of a streamer and then sell it to a streaming service," said Potter.
