The Windsor International Film Festival celebrates 20 years in 2024, and to celebrate, organizers have a full slate of activities leading up to the actual festival this fall.
"As a film festival, we recognize the great accomplishment of making it to 20 years," said Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie.
WIFF Under the Stars is back with a weekend of outdoor community screenings outside the Windsor Aquatic Centre and Art Windsor Essex. The films run the gamut from animated Disney classics to blockbuster hits and new Canadian titles.
WIFF Under the Stars kicks off June 7 and runs to Sunday, June 9.
Another weekend event is also in June, WIFF Local Retrospective, featuring local long and short films made in the past two decades. That event runs from June 21 to June 23.
Many screenings will also feature Q&As with filmmakers like Matt Gallagher, Kim Nelson, Gavin Michael Booth, and Nicholas Shields.
On Saturday, June 22, WIFF will screen the new feature film called "Sometimes I Think About Dying." Local actor and comedian Dave Merheje will return to Windsor from Los Angeles to attend the special event.
The Mark Boscariol 48-Hour FlickFest returns this September. The annual filmmaking competition runs from September 20 to September 22. This year, it will feature films from winners from the past decade.
Those who wish to compete can register starting on August 23. Contestants will be supplied with a line of dialogue and given 48 hours to submit their entries. A jury decides the winners, who will receive $1,300 in prizes.
The Windsor International Film Fest is from October 24 to November 3.
