Masse hopeful Ojibway bill will pass before election is called

Windsor-West MP Brian Masse is hopeful there is still time to get work done in the House of Commons before an election is called.

On Wednesday, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced the end of the supply and confidence agreement his party made with the Liberal government leading many to believe a federal election could be imminent.

"We're always ready, we have to do what we have to do to be ready but the most important thing is to try and get results and the reality is that we got the results out of the agreement that we had signed on for and we've seen other behaviour that is not in the best interest of Canadians," said Masse.

He is hopeful his private members' bill to create the Ojibway National Urban Park can pass through the Senate before an election is called.

"I'm hopeful that we can get this through and I'm prepared to, and I have been working on it diligently over the summer," said Masse. "We're feeling good about it but it's going to take a lot of effort."

The House of Commons will be back in session on September 16.

"Going back to the House of Commons, I'll continue to do what I've done to try and make things work and make opportunities for Windsor-West residents and the rest of the country happen," said Windsor-West MP Brian Masse.

The Liberals would need to lose a confidence vote to trigger an election.
