Windsor police arrest three in series of retail thefts

Three people from the Toronto area are facing numerous charges following a series of shoplifting incidents.

Windsor police say the first incident was reported Friday at around 4:30 p.m., at a business on Walker Road south of Division Road. Three men entered the store, took about $1,000 worth of merchandise, and left without paying.

Police also said the men damaged property, and when confronted by a loss prevention officer, sprayed the officer with a noxious substance. The trio fled in a black sedan.

Officers were called again at 5:15 p.m., this time to a business on Dougall Avenue near Nottingham Street. The men took about $500 worth of items, threatened an employee with a baton, then left in a similar black sedan.

Less than ten minutes later, police were called to a business on Dougall Avenue north of Eugenie Street West. The men took about $130 worth of merchandise.

Officers spotted the black sedan in a nearby parking lot, and when the males tried to run, they were chased and arrested. One of the officers suffered a broken ankle.

A 21-year-old man, along with a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, all from Scarborough, were each charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, and theft under $5,000.

The teens can not be identified under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The charges have not been proven in court.
