A popular Windsor tradition comes with new "hubs" and a new set of street closures.
The City of Windsor's Open Streets East End Edition is Sunday, with events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To accommodate the activities and the large crowds expected to participate, the City has announced street closures and crossover points where vehicles can cross safely.
The new route begins on Howard Avenue and Erie Street and works through the Lanspeary Park area to Ottawa Street. It then proceeds along Walker Road and Drouillard Road to Ford City, before going down Wyandotte Street East and ending at Miracle Riverside Park.
There will be seven community "hubs" with the new route, including Via Italia, Lanspeary Park, Ottawa Street, Ford City, the Power Hub, Pillette Village, Olde Riverside, and Miracle Park.
Previously, Open Streets Windsor had stretched from the University of Windsor, and through the downtown core before ending in Olde Walkerville.
Streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Drivers who must cross the route to get from one point to another may do so at six intersections with signals. Those are the following.
Giles Boulevard East at Parent Avenue (for eastbound and westbound traffic)
Gladstone Avenue at Ottawa Street
Lincoln Road at Ottawa Street
George Avenue at Wyandotte Street East
Pillette Road at Wyandotte Street East
Jefferson Boulevard at Wyandotte Street East
The eight-kilometre route will be open to walkers, runners, bicyclists, yoga enthusiasts, and others.
