"Winning four awards in a very competitive provincial brewing competition is no easy feat," but Walkerville Brewery did it this year.
Walkerville partner Ian Gourlay is celebrating after the brewery came away with four gold winners and a bronze at the Ontario Brewing Awards in Niagara Falls earlier this month.
Its Imperial Stout, Geronimo IPA, and Easy Stout won top honours in the competition's American Porter and Stout, Pale Commonwealth Beer, and Dark British Beer categories. Waterfront Wit won the bronze for best Belgian Ale.
Two other local breweries came away with awards. Kingsville Brewery won the bronze in the Wood Beer category for its Barrel Aged Stout, while Grove Brewing Company's Clubhouse Oatmeal Stout was third place for best Dark British Beer.
Sons of Kent in Chatham-Kent won the gold in the Wood Beer category for Mammouth, and from St. Thomas, the Railway City Brewing Company's Elgin's Finest Wee Heavy won the top spot for Strong British Ale.
