Windsor police report a decrease in crime in the Glengarry neighbourhood after launching its community safety campaign.
In August, police started the campaign in the downtown area with a sustained police presence. They also introduced support services into the neighbourhood to improve resident safety.
As part of the initiative, police arrested 22 individuals in August on a number of charges including assault, theft, and drug-related charges.
A month later another 24 arrests were made and 48 charges were laid in relation to assault, theft, and failing to comply with release orders.
In the latest round of arrests over the weekend, officers arrested 18 suspects, laid 28 charges, and executed 11 outstanding arrest warrants in the neighbourhood. The charges included failure to comply, break and enter, sexual assault, and voyeurism.
According to the most recent crime statistics, violent crimes in the Glengarry area have gone down by 18.7 per cent. There have also been 37.5 per cent less drug crimes reported in the area.
Arrests related to violating bail conditions and other judicial orders have increased by 22.7 per cent.
