Police officers were out on Tuesday, keeping roads safe from aggressive, inattentive, and impaired drivers.
Windsor police and LaSalle police conducted separate enforcement blitzes. Windsor's program focused more on traffic monitoring, while LaSalle conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checkpoint.
Windsor officers were set up across the city conducting enforcement. Police wrote 54 citations for speeding, stunt driving, ignoring red lights, and other violations.
One driver in Windsor was arrested for impaired driving after failing a breathalyzer test.
In LaSalle, officers at the RIDE checkpoint briefly interviewed 250 drivers.
One roadside test was conducted, but no impaired driving arrests were made.
With the holiday season approaching and the likelihood of impaired driving increasing, police are reminding drivers to obey all traffic regulations, put down their cell phones, and never drive while drinking or using drugs.
