Windsor Fire and Rescue Services will be handing out over 400 smoke and carbon monoxide alarms thanks to Enbridge Gas.
All of the detectors will be given to vulnerable community members with the help of community sponsors.
"It's so important and we've gone over this message for years but we're still seeing a high level of non-compliance with smoke alarms and we want to reduce that to zero. We want to everybody to have a working smoke alarm on all levels of their house," said Windsor Fire Chief Stephen Laforet.
Through Safe Community Project Zero Enbridge Gas will help provide 14,500 alarms to residents in 75 communities across Ontario.
“The best way to reduce potential exposure to carbon monoxide is to properly maintain fuel-burning equipment. These alarms are a critical second line of defence against carbon monoxide poisoning, known as ‘the silent killer." said Angela Scott, Southwest Manager Operations, Enbridge Gas.
