LaSalle police warn of consequences from stunt driving

LaSalle police say that some people are still not getting the message about stunt driving.

A 23-year-old man learned that lesson the hard way on Wednesday.

An officer with the traffic enforcement unit stopped the driver on Front Road, and was allegedly clocked going 98 kilometres per hour in a 50-kilometre-per-hour zone.

Police are reminding residents again that driving a motor vehicle is a privilege, not a right, and stunt driving could have serious or even fatal consequences.

The Ontario Highway Traffic Act says that maximum penalties for stunt driving may include up to six demerit points, a $10,000 fine, six months in jail, and a mandatory driver improvement course.

LaSalle police have also added that if you are stopped for stunt driving, it could be the last time you ever drive. A minimum driver licence suspension of one year is possible, and at least four convictions may result in a non-reducible lifetime suspension.
