Generic baby car seats for infants and toddlers sold at Amazon.ca are being recalled over concerns they could lead to an increased risk of injury in a crash.
Health Canada issued the consumer product advisory this week for the car seat with adjustable headrest and shoulder straps sold under the Amazon Standard Identification Number B0D29WX2MW.
"Health Canada has determined that the use of these restraints in a motor vehicle could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision," the advisory states. "Additionally, these products do not display Transport Canada's National Safety Mark and therefore have not been certified to meet the safety requirements of the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations."
The agency notes the recalled product was sold at Amazon.ca by "various sellers" and may have also been sold though other online marketplaces.
Anyone who has the recalled car seat is advised to immediately stop using it and safely dispose of it in such a way that it cannot be used again.
Amazon has removed the product from its site and Health Canada has advised foreign selling companies to do the same.
To-date, there have been no injuries associated with the seats.
