The City of Windsor has unveiled the latest addition to its bicycle-friendly offerings.
A section of Victoria Avenue has undergone significant improvements as part of the Victoria Bikeway Project, designed to enhance safety and accessibility for bicyclists and drivers.
The improvements include a wide painted buffered bike lane on the right-hand side, with a painted buffer on both sides for additional cyclist safety. Bike lanes are also marked with green at intersections.
Dashed lines mark areas where bike lanes conflict with parking access points and vehicle turning lanes. Drivers are to yield to cyclists riding through these zones.
The bikeway also transitions to a shared travel lane for cyclists and drivers, and there are traffic-calming speed humps installed.
To allow people using this area to adapt to the changes, Windsor parking enforcement officers will only issue warnings at first. Tickets will be written for compliance beginning in 2025.
