Tecumseh passes 2025 budget with a consolidated 3.69 per cent tax increase

The Town of Tecumseh has its spending plan ready for 2025.

Town councillors this week approved the 2025 budget, having brought the municipal tax increase down from a proposed 5.46 per cent to 4.33 per cent.

However, combined with the county rate, the consolidated increase is just 3.69 per cent.

With the municipal rate on its own, the owner of a property assessed at $275,000 will pay about $100 more per year.

Mayor Gary McNamara told WindsorNewsToday.ca that some significant savings were found to lower the tax rate.

"All in all, we were able to find a little over half a million dollars, so that's why it came down about a point-and-a-half on the bottom end," said McNamara.

With those savings, the mayor said the Town will reinvest the money for operations on a one-off basis.

The budget includes a capital spending plan of about $75-million, with various projects in 2025. McNamara said one project is to eliminate a long-time traffic headache.

"Northbound Lesperance Road at County Road 22, we're going to be adding a right-turn lane now that will be desperately needed. That'll be starting this year," said McNamara.

Flood mitigation projects will also be a priority in 2025, with enhancements continuing for the Scully-St. Mark's and P.J. Cecile storm pump stations.

Other projects include improvements to Lakewood Park South and Southfield Park, and a new radio system for Tecumseh Fire and Rescue.
