A prominent Chatham defence lawyer with ties that run deep in Chatham-Kent is now a judge in Windsor.
Greg McGivern's new appointment and assignment was recently announced by the Ontario government.
The province said McGivern was called to the Ontario bar in 2013 and began his own private practice in 2016.
Justice McGivern has been defence counsel for several high profile cases and clients in the Chatham-Kent area, including most recently a man accused of a murder in Tilbury, a Wallaceburg senior who killed his wife in December of 2020, and a Chatham man who sexually assaulted four young boys multiple times in the 1980s.
He has also been the criminal court liaison for the Kent Law Association since 2020.
McGivern also has a deep affection for helping his community.
"Justice McGivern is a dedicated volunteer in the Chatham-Kent community. He has been a guest speaker alongside local police at high schools and has mentored students as a high school mock trial coach and university practice judge," noted the province in a news release.
Justice McGivern was assigned to the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor by Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas, effective December 26, 2024 along with three other judges also assigned to Windsor.
