Lakeshore officially approves Lighthouse Cove golf cart pilot

It's official. Starting April 1, golf carts will allowed on some roads in Lighthouse Cove.

Lakeshore Municipal Council officially approved the Lighthouse Cove Golf Cart pilot project at a meeting earlier this month. It adopted a bylaw to participate in the provincial program and approved registration fees and costs for signage and safety measures.

The provincial pilot project starts on April 1 and runs until 2031.

Residents and visitors can drive a golf cart on roads where the speed limit is 50 km/h or less.

"This has been a priority for Lighthouse Cove residents, and we know they are eager to hit the road," said Mayor Tracey Bailey.

The next step for Lakeshore's council is to request approval from the County of Essex to allow golf carts on Tisdelle Road, a county road.
