Windsor and Amherstburg may have noticed a subtle decline in property crime last month.
Windsor police released their crime statistics for March on Wednesday morning.
When compared to March 2024, crimes against property went down by 2.5 per cent. However, property crime dropped by 15.7 per cent year-to-date, compared to between January and March 2024.
Officers in Windsor and Amherstburg took 864 reports for property crimes, which include break-and-enter, theft, fraud, mischief, possession of stolen property, and arson.
So far in 2025, 2,391 property incidents have been reported.
Personal crime was a different story in March. There were 266 complaints made last month for a year-to-year increase of 7.7 per cent. Murder, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and harassment fall into this category.
In 2025 to date, there were 670 personal crimes reported, a modest 2.1 per cent jump over the same period last year.
Criminal Code violations that do not fall under property or personal are trending lower. Year-to-year, Windsor police said there was a 7.4 per cent decrease for November. For 2025 so far, the decrease was 10.9 per cent.
Child pornography, non-violent weapons offences, betting and gaming offences, and administration of justice violations are in the latter category.
In the ward-by-ward breakdown for March in the City of Windsor only, both the highest property and personal crime rates were in Ward 3, including the downtown core.
Ward 1 had the lowest number of personal crimes and was in a close race with Ward 7 for the lowest number of property crime reports.
