Detroit Grand Prix to remain downtown

Detroit's world-class racing event will stay downtown for at least a while longer.

The Detroit Free Press reported on Sunday that the Detroit City Council has agreed to extend its contract with the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, keeping its downtown course through at least 2028.

There is an option for 2029.

The paper reported that Letty Azar, Penske's Vice President of Community and Government Affairs, confirmed the extension.

This was the third straight year that the Grand Prix was run on the 1.7-mile downtown street circuit after many years on Belle Isle.

American Kyle Kirkwood was the winner of Sunday's main event.

Attendance figures for the 2025 edition have not been announced, but the previous year's Grand Prix drew 150,000 race fans to Detroit.
