Residents in Wheatley will see plenty of activity downtown, near the library, in the coming days.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent confirmed Wednesday that contractors will be running tests on the monitoring well on the library property.
Gas migration tests are being taken, and additional remote air monitoring has been installed on the site. A temporary vent stack has also been installed to capture any gas.
It's believed that an abandoned water well is responsible for the latest gas release. The municipality said operational plans to bring contractors in to expose and properly abandon the well are underway.
In the meantime, library services will be relocated to the Village Resource Centre on Talbot Road.
As of Saturday, a small selection of materials will be available to patrons.
