With autumn weather finally in the air, that means Canadian Thanksgiving is around the corner.
Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, which means the majority of businesses and public institutions will be either closed or on abbreviated hours.
All federal, provincial, and municipal offices in the region will be closed on Monday. Service Ontario branches will also be closed, though some transactions, such as plate renewals, may be performed online.
There will be no mail delivery.
All four public school boards serving Windsor-Essex are closed on Thanksgiving, along with the University of Windsor and St. Clair College.
All Windsor Public Library and Essex Public Library branches are closed on Sunday and Monday.
All LCBO outlets and The Beer Store locations are closed on Thanksgiving.
The 311 call centre will be closed, and reopen on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 211 call centre will be open 24 hours as usual.
Residential garbage and recycling collection in the City of Windsor will proceed as normal. Commercial, front-end loader, and weekly non-eligible source recycling collections are also as scheduled. However, the public drop-off and household chemical waste depot at Central Avenue and the E.C. Row is closed Monday.
The H-4 program at Windsor Water World is open 24 hours for those looking for housing or homelessness help.
All community centres, customer care centres, and arenas in Windsor are closed on Thanksgiving except for pre-booked or previously-scheduled rentals.
The Windsor Spitfires will play the Oshawa Generals at the WFCU Centre, with a 2:05 p.m. puck drop.
The indoor pools at the WFCU Centre, the Gino and Liz Marcus Community Complex, and the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre are closed on Thanksgiving. The City's park splash pads are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park is closed on Monday.
Lakeview Park Marina's launch ramps will be open on Thanksgiving from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The office and fuel dock will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Street-metered parking in Windsor on Sunday and Monday is free, though the city’s paid surface lots and garages will operate as usual. Municipal ticket payment offices will be closed.
Transit Windsor buses will run on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving. The Windsor International Transit Terminal's customer service office on Chatham Street West will be closed. For alternate places to purchase a bus pass, visit the Transit Windsor website.
Devonshire Mall and Tecumseh Mall in Windsor are both closed on Monday. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Many grocery and big-box stores in Windsor-Essex will be closed or on holiday hours. Be sure to check ahead before heading out.
The Francois Baby House and the Chimczuk Museum will be closed on Thanksgiving. The Streetcar No. 351 at the Legacy Beacon is also closed.
