Veterans honoured at annual Remembrance Day ceremony in Windsor

Hundreds gathered outside the Windsor cenotaph Tuesday morning to show their respect to Canadian veterans.

The Remembrance Day ceremony was attended by veterans, their families, students, and government officials.

"It warms my heart every time I come to the cenotaph and look out and see the number of faces that come and support. You have no idea what it means to me," said Silver Cross Mother Theresa Charbonneau, whose son Cpl. Andrew Grennon was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2008.

Many at the ceremony spoke about the importance of standing as a community on Remembrance Day.

"Windsor is a community standing united in gratitude to remember not only those who fell on distant battlefields but also those who returned home changed and their families who bore the weight of their service and their unwaivering commitment to peace," said Captain Jeremy Samson, Royal Canadian Navy.

Ceremonies were also held at cenotaphs throughout Essex County.
