Now that the Town of LaSalle has posted its draft 2026 budget online, you might have questions.
Next year's requested budget calls for an increase in spending of $4.2-million, from $50,003,300 to $54,260,900.
The document cites a number of reasons for the increase, including rising service demands, the continued postponement of municipal property assessments, and inflation. According to the town, the cost of capital projects has increased ten to 15 per cent in the past year.
The impact on residential property owners will likely change during budget deliberations, but as it stands, the increase in the residential property tax rate will go up 5.98 per cent for an average home assessed at $710,000. That's an increase of $189 annually, or $15.79 a month.
On Monday, November 17, town staff will be at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Centre's lobby from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to answer questions about the spending plan for next year.
Town councillors got a preview of the budget on Monday night.
During Monday's meeting, residents are also encouraged to share their thoughts about the town's Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan, which is also available on the town's website.
That plan will guide decision-making over the next five years, with a long-term outlook to 2045.
Budget deliberations are planned for November 27 and November 28.
