Tilbury fatal crash preliminary hearing set for January

The preliminary hearing for a man accused of killing a teen in Tilbury will go ahead in the new year.

Jaise Thomas, 26, of Chatham, will have his hearing on January 12, 13, 14, 15, 27, and February 19, 2026 in Chatham court.

Thomas is charged with dangerous driving causing death in connection with a fatal head-on crash that took place just outside of Tilbury on January 20 on Queen’s Line between Wheeler Line and Davidson Road.

The collision claimed the life of 18-year-old Sebastian Belliveau.

Thomas' focus hearing will continue on December 15, 2025, also in Chatham court.

A focus hearing is a court tool that is used to streamline the legal process by having a judge make decisions on time limits for the case and on how evidence will be presented.

The prosecution had been waiting for more submissions, including medical evidence, collision reconstruction data, expert qualifications, cause of death, and dozens of other information reports.
