The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) has decided who will fill its two vacant trustee seats.
During a meeting on Monday, the board selected Cheryl Lovell and Chandrika Abhang to fill the seats vacated by the resignations of two trustees.
Lovell will take over as the trustee representing Leamington and Pelee Island. This is the seat that was vacated by Nancy Armstrong, who resigned over her lingering unhappiness about the way Kingsville's new K-12 school was named.
Abhang will fill the trustee position for LaSalle and Amherstburg, which was previously occupied by Ron LeClair. He resigned over concerns about potential changes to education oversight in Ontario.
Lovell and Abhang were chosen from a field of 11 candidates who submitted applications to the board. All candidates were interviewed on Monday.
Both new trustees will be sworn in on Tuesday afternoon during the board's regular meeting. They will remain on the board of trustees until the next municipal election, set for October 2026.
