CMHA launches campaign to honour lost loved ones

The community is invited to honour lost loved ones this holiday season through the Canadian Mental Health Association's Light the Way campaign.

The campaign helps to fund the Bereavement Program at the CMHA, which offers free grief support to children and adults.

"We really appreciate all the support. It's not a fully funded program through the government so without the donations and the fundraising it wouldn't be available," said Kim Willis, Director of Communications, CMHA-WECB.

Donations can be made by visiting their booth in Devonshire Mall's food court or through the campaign website. While making a donation, an ornament can be placed on one of four trees in honour of a loved one.

The CMHA is hoping to raise $50,000 for the programs. Willis said there is a large demand for the program every year.

Shawna Pelletier, who lost her husband over two years ago, says the Bereavement Programs were crucial for her family's recovery.

"They've worked wonders. We wouldn't be where we're at today if it wasn't for help," said Pelletier. "Just showing us how to cope with it as a family and help us move forward in life and smile again."

The campaign runs until December 12.
